How did Hitler visit France without been assassinated by the very people he just invaded?

On the 23rd of June 1940 Hitler visited Paris with his entourage to inspect the art and architecture of the legendary capital city he had conquered.

His security detail knew this would be a risky excursion because the city was filled with people that would kill him if they had the chance.

To avoid this the visit was only announced to senior Nazi officers and lasted just 3 hours in the early morning. Hitler arrived by plane at 5:30am took a tour by motorcar and left to go back to berlin before 9am.

Most Parisians never even knew he was there until it showed up in propaganda releases.
