Ocean View Arts instructor Meryl Ann Butler was classically trained, atelier-style. She studied in New York for seven years with Harold R. Stevenson, who was a student of Norman Rockwell and Frank J. Reilly. Their direct artistic lineage includes French academicians Jean-Léon Gérôme (originator of the Bargue Plates), Jules Joseph Lefebvre, and François Boucher, as well as American masters Howard Pyle and George Bridgman.
